Description
Stencils for The Ceramic Surface with Shalya Marsh
Do you want to create more dynamic and personalised surfaces on your pots? In this virtual workshop, you will learn how to create and use multiple types of stencils for embellishing the ceramic surface. We’ll cover everything from simple paper and vinyl stencils, to using craft foam and tar paper to create stencils that add texture to your work.
In this virtual workshop, hand-builder, tile maker, and digital wizard Shalya Marsh will demonstrate her unique strategies for using craft cutters (such as the Silhouette Cameo and Cricut Maker) to cut stencils to help you create dynamic ceramic surfaces.
This course includes both a live virtual workshop that will outline multiple ways to use stencils, as well as a comprehensive on-demand video lesson outlining the technical aspects of using a craft cutter. Plus there are a ton of great bonus handouts!
In Cut It Out Live Workshop Recording You’ll Learn:
- How to use stencils to achieve different textures on your work, including: embossed textures using craft foam, tyvek, and tar paper.
- Using paper and vinyl resist stencils to create surface patterns with glaze and underglaze decoration.
- Water etching using simple tyvek and vinyl stencils.
- A variety of different stencil materials and their application, including: craft foam, tyvek, tar paper, vinyl, paper, and cardboard
- And more!
In The Cutting 101 On-Demand Video Lesson You’ll Learn:
- Several ways to create images that can be used to cut stencils for ceramic surfaces.
- How to turn your hand-drawn or digital images into digitally cut stencils.
- And more!
As a bonus, you’ll receive six different handouts from Shalya, outlining her techniques and approaches, including her favourite materials to cut and Cameo and Silhouette machine settings.
All levels welcome!
Don’t have a craft cutter*, or just not a fan of technology? In the live portion of the workshop, Shalya will be demonstrating multiple ways to work with different stencil materials, all of which also work with hand-cut stencils!
*Note: many local libraries have craft cutters you can use, so if you’re interested in this process, but aren’t quite ready to invest in your own machine, check in with your local library to see what equipment they have.
