Hi Nomi
These are lovely – and Sheila is right; you’ve taken a whole quantum leap forward. I particularly like the scalloped bowls, the teapot, and some of your mugs! I really look forward to seeing the whole show in person this weekend!!
Much love

I’m really enjoying the Guston meets Basquiat surface decoration–of course I have no idea where you’re coming from, but for me the decoration reads like a playful and beautiful defacing of the form (bold because the construction is so nicely considered); a simultaneous complement and contradiction to clay body.
(My favourite is Flower Brick because of the stark matte / glassy contrast in the finish.)
Ted, thank you so much for your lovely and thoughtful comments about my new work! To tell you the truth, I don’t really know quite where I’m coming from with it yet… I’m pretty new to this whole mark making thing. At first it started out as more of a way to try and define form, but it’s evolved beyond that now and I really like your suggestion that is almost more like a kind of graffiti of sorts… I’ll have to think about that. I too love the flower brick (and the turquoise/blue bowl with similar decoration) as that specific combo of glossy/satin is just super sexy in my opinion!
It was such a pleasure to meet you at Medalta Potteries. Your use of color and form are truly aesthetic. I love your work and look forward to seeing you continue on your journey.
Nomi, you don’t make things. You make art. These pieces are spectacular!

Thanks Mom – glad you’ll get to see it all in the flesh too!

And – I forgot to add – the flower brick; I like the holes better than the loops, and they’ve got to be easier to make!!!
Love
